The ultimate php feed v2
Some time ago Chris Ramsay was good enough to send me his opml file containing all the rss feeds he was currently reading relating to PHP web development.
On the whole the links provided have been an excellent resource. Some of the feeds were blatantly not kept up (who am I to criticize) and I’ve added additional feeds as I’ve gone along to reflect some of the areas of PHP web development I’m currently involved in.
Of late I’ve began to notice quite a lot of duplication, and in some cases I was getting three posts for every unique post, this is partly due to the PHP Planet feed being included. A minor frustration for some, I freely admit it has really begun to annoy me.
Recently I stumbled across the Yahoo! Pipes project:
“an interactive data aggregator and manipulator that lets you mashup your favorite online data sources”
Within five minutes of using Pipes I was able to quickly able to create a new feed which aggregated all my PHP feeds filtering by unique title and ordered by date.
For those interested they can pick this up the Ultimate PHP Feed and slice and dice this as you require.
Looking round at some of the example usages of Pipes and current built in functionality; I think this is something I’ll be looking in to in some more detail.
For those interested in getting to grips with Pipes here’s a nice gentle intro from lifehacker:
Another point of merit is for those who like me mix and match feeds on work and home machines. Currently I use Feedreader as my RSS reader, given I prefer to run this on my machine instead of using a web based RSS aggregator. This gives the added headache of maintaining two sets of feeds. Using Pipes quickly eliminates the need to maintain two sets of opml files along with the ability to mix and match the feeds you want to see both in and out of work.
